A Mid-Summer’s Wintering
For the past few months, life has been full with opportunities for forging connections and supporting those I love in their milestone moments. It's been a whirlwind of babies and surgeries and pandemic and family gatherings--a mix of all of Life's shades & hues.
But for the next little bit, I'm taking ME time to play and rest. I'm eating delicious food, drinking good wine, reading refined beachy books, and letting the beauty of the sun and sky and shore work their pleasurable magic on my body and heart and mind.
I'm ready to soak it all in and to let go of the need for anything that hints at being a TO DO list.
NOTE: The truth of the above sentence is relatvely new to me.
My decades' long habit led me to believe that NOT DOING was somehow wrong. That I needed to resist seeking out what is pleasurable or restorative or joyful and instead develop a million little “perfectly logical” (boo, hiss) reasons to keep on keepin' on.
But now, looking back at pictures taken during vacations from previous years (when I succumbed reluctantly to “down time”) --like the ones of the sunflowers (above) or the wolf (below)-- I am reminded of the need to be intentional about NOT DOING more often. I'm reminded that time off is EXACTLY what is most needful. I'm reminded that the “perfectly logical” is often the problem, not the solution.
Practicing being a Well-Seasoned Woman means taking time to do some Wintering--i.e. some resting, dreaming, restoring--whenever & wherever it's needed. Even in the middle of summertime.
If it's been awhile for you, too, then consider this newsletter your personal invitation to do a little Wintering of your own soon and very soon.
You need it for YOU, for the people in your life who care about you, & even for the people who care about the people in your life--because they'll benefit by assocation, too.
Until next time,
xo
